Carbon Reduction at Ribbonwood Retreat

At Ribbonwood Retreat Franz Josef Glacier, our dedication to sustainability goes beyond waste management and energy efficiency. A key element of our eco-friendly initiatives is our robust carbon reduction strategy. By actively measuring, offsetting, and mitigating our carbon footprint, we contribute to the global effort to combat climate change and promote a healthier planet for future generations.

Measuring Our Carbon Footprint with the Toitu Emissions Calculator

Understanding our carbon footprint is the first step in our journey toward carbon neutrality. We utilise the Toitu Emissions Calculator to accurately measure the greenhouse gases emitted by our operations over the years. This comprehensive tool helps us identify the primary sources of our emissions, enabling us to develop targeted strategies to reduce our carbon impact.

Offsetting Emissions with Annual Donations to the Okarito Plants Project

To mitigate the environmental impact of our carbon emissions, we make annual donations to the Okarito Plant Project. This initiative focuses on restoring native plant species in the Okarito region, which plays a crucial role in sequestering carbon, improving biodiversity, and enhancing the natural beauty of New Zealand. Our contributions to the Okarito Plant Project not only offset our emissions but also support the preservation of local ecosystems, ensuring that the unique flora and fauna of the region thrive for years to come.

Supporting Trees That Count to Combat Climate Change

In addition to our efforts with the Okarito Plants Project, we proudly support Trees That Count. This organisation is dedicated to planting native trees across New Zealand to absorb carbon dioxide, combat climate change, and improve the environment. By donating to Trees That Count, we help increase the number of trees planted, which in turn enhances carbon sequestration and promotes sustainable land use.

Carbon Reduction: Valuing Carbon at $50 a Ton and Purchasing Credits

To further demonstrate our commitment to carbon reduction, we value our carbon at $50 a ton. This valuation allows us to quantify the cost of our emissions and allocate funds accordingly to purchase carbon credits. By donating the equivalent amount, we effectively offset our carbon footprint and contribute to global carbon reduction efforts.

Our investment in carbon credits supports various environmental projects that focus on reducing greenhouse gases and promoting sustainable practices. This approach ensures that our financial contributions have a tangible and positive impact on the environment.

A Holistic Approach to Sustainability

At Ribbonwood Retreat, our carbon reduction efforts are an integral part of our broader commitment to sustainability. We believe that by taking proactive steps to measure, offset, and mitigate our carbon emissions, we can make a meaningful difference in the fight against climate change.

Our dedication to sustainability extends to every aspect of our operations, from energy-efficient practices and waste reduction to supporting local communities and preserving natural habitats. By integrating eco-friendly initiatives into our daily activities, we aim to inspire our guests and the wider community to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.
