Ribbonwood Retreat is set on one hectare of established, peaceful grounds and native gardens with panoramic views of the rainforest, mountains, and glaciers of the Southern Alps of New Zealand and Westland National Park. There are two bed-and-breakfast suites - The Cottage & The Waiho Suite. Guests can choose from our breakfast menu, made with love and fresh produce from the garden, homemade and local ingredients. Will you opt for the fresh fruit crepe, cooked breakfast with farm-fresh eggs, homemade bread, and preserves, or our famous vegan waffles? Saviour every sip of our locally West Coast brewed delicious coffee. We adapt our menu to your dietary requirements.
The Cottage
The Cottage is a welcoming 40 sqm private, self-contained native garden abode inspired by Scandinavian design and built with solid timber. Sink into your hotel-grade King bed wrapped in crisp 100% cotton line-dried linen. A single bed is also available in The Cottage and is perfect for up to 2 people. Set on an acre of lush, sprawling grounds surrounded by established native trees, and nestled on the doorstep of Westland National Park, soak up spectacular mountain and glacier views.
There is a kitchenette with drink-making facilities, a microwave and a small fridge. The ensuite bathroom features a high-flow shower.
Experience the West Coasts' incredible sunsets or sip your favourite wine alfresco under the stars on the large deck which eludes off the cottage ranch slider.
Large windows mean the cottage is sun-drenched and the ranch slider doors open out to the deck.
The cottage has a wheelchair ramp, accessible bathroom facilities, wide doors, a sliding shower, a shower chair and handrails.
Guests enjoy the privacy of their own space, a vast garden area to roam, secluded decks and private parking.

The Waiho Suite
Welcome to the Waiho Suite, your spacious boutique accommodation nestled at the base of the majestic West Coast mountains, surrounded by rainforest, sprawling farmland and vibrant native gardens you can roam. The Waiho Suite offers exclusive use of the entire top floor of Ribbonwood Retreat, boasting views of stunning Westland National Park vistas that travel as far as the eye can see, inviting you to truly let go, relax and let nature envelop you.
The Wahio Suite encompasses two bedrooms which both have ranch slider doors that open out onto private decks, perfectly positioned to watch twilight. Soak up our famous West Coast sunsets whilst enjoying your favourite beverage and appreciating the vastness around you that is UNESCO World Heritage. The master bedroom is a whopping 35 square metres complete with a comfortable king bed and a single bed with direct views of the glaciers and the mountains. There is also a workspace, walk-in wardrobe and sofa.
The second bedroom offers 12 square metres of comfort, has a queen bed and shares a generous bathroom with the master room. There is no guest kitchen however drink-making facilities are always available and Franz Josef Glacier has several excellent restaurants nearby.
Please note if 2 persons require two separate
rooms, then a surcharge of $50 per night will apply.
Due to safety concerns with the stairs and balcony, the Waiho Rooms are not suitable for children under the age of 7. Instead, we recommend booking The Cottage if you are travelling with children.

Choose from our breakfast menu including home-made cereals, oats with dates, vegan cinnamon fresh fruit waffles, fruit juice, seasonal fruits, yogurt, home made nut and wholegrain bread and Ribbonwood preserves. Jonathan's gourmet speciality is free range eggs and homemade baked beans. Julie's speciality is fresh fruit compete with crepes and rhubarb yoghurt. We have a vegan and gluten free option which is a waffle with toppings of either fruit or vegetables. We are happy to cater for dietary needs, simply let us know in advance or when booking.
If you are here in the afternoon, we invite you to indulge in a delightful tea complimented with home-made biscuits whilst sitting out on the deck and relaxing in the afternoon sun.
